Tamil Nadu Police on Thursday refuted the Sri Lankan government's reported claim about the presence of LTTE camps in the state, saying it was "baseless and devoid of any reality". "The alleged training camps of US-based V Rudrakumaran, Norway-based Nediyavan and Vinayagam are denied and there is no evidence suggesting that they have established a base in Tamil Nadu to create civil war in Sri Lanka and kill Indian leaders," DGP Letika Saran said.

NEW DELHI: Ahead of foreign minister S M Krishna's visit to Sri Lanka, India has started work on construction of 1,000 homes for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the island nation. The construction of 1,000 homes is a pilot project for the commitment made by India to build 50,000 houses in northern and eastern Sri Lanka.

Sea transport network between India and Sri Lanka will be streamlined. During the meeting between President Mahinda Rajapakse and Indian Navy Commander Admiral Nirmal Varma special attention was made on modernizing the Kankesanthurai Port, and on commencing board services between Thalai Mannar and Rameswaram as well as between Colombo Fort and Tuticorn. Mr. Varma also met Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne and talks between them focused on expansion of sea transport between the two countries.

NEW DELHI: India is planning to set up a consulate at Jaffna in northern Sri Lanka. With Mr Rajapaksa now back in power, the matter is expected to gather momentum. The setting up of a consulate in Jaffna would be a significant step in the domestic context as it would allay apprehensions in Tamil Nadu that the Centre is not doing enough for the Tamils in Sri Lanka.
