The Dambulla Economic Centre is receiving large stocks of red onions from Jaffna. The Traders’ Association said the centre receive more than 110,000 kilos of red unions a day. It is of significance that the farmers from Jaffna themselves bring their produce to the Dambulla Economic Centre. The price of a kilo of Jaffna red onions is between Rs.40 to 55 in the Dambulla market. The farmers from Jaffna expressed satisfaction at the prevailing prices in the Dambulla Economic Centre. They said the price of a kilo of red onion in the Jaffna market was about Rs.30 but they received higher prices at the Dambulla Economic Centre. Meanwhile President of the Association U R Dayanandasiri said the farmers from Jaffna were at liberty to transact direct with the Economic Centre and were free from any interference of middlemen.
