Colombo, Sep 13 (TruthDive): US Assistant Secretary of State, Robert O Blake’s efforts to meet student representatives of Jaffna university to hear first hand account of human rights violation were blocked by supporters of Rajapakse – the EPDP paramilitary cum political party. Police were mere spectators. Geneva indicated that Sri Lanka’s war crimes report produced by Ban appointed UN panel of experts has been submitted to the UN’s Human Rights Commission. The placards displayed by EPDP supporters asked Blake as to how much dollars he paid or vodka he gifted to get the information from people he met.

Names of three professors have been shortlisted to be the next Vice Chancellor of the University of Jaffna. The top three out of 12 contestants were elected during the weekend by 21-member Senate of the University of Jaffna.
Following the Senate meeting, Professor Ms. Vasanthy Arasaratnam, who received 14 votes to finish on top and incumbent Vice Chancellor N. Shanmugalingham and Professor Ratna Jeevan Hoole, who obtained 9 votes each, were shortlisted for the post.
Their names have been sent to the President for the final ratification.Professor Ratna Jeevan Hoole who was attached to the Engineering Faculty of the University of Peradeniya, was appointed in 2006 by President Mahinda Rajapaksa as Vice Chancelor of the University. But following LTTE threats, he was forced to migrate to the US with his family.

The Indian Government has consented to construct an Agriculture and Engineering faculty equipped with hi-tech laboratories for the Jaffna University on a 300-acre site in Ariviyal, in the Kilinochchi District, Minister of Higher Education S. B. Dissanayake said on Sunday, 29th August, at the Jaffna University.

The Jaffna University will get an Engineering Faculty very soon, and it will be located in Kilinochchi, said Higher Education Minister S.B. Dissanayake yesterday. The Agriculture Science Faculty will also be relocated in Kilinochchi, he said. Mr. Dissanayake laid the foundation stones in Kilinochchi yesterday for the construction of the buildings for the Faculties.
