The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has agreed to provide financial assistance approximately Rs.10 billion (US$ 90 million) for the implementation of Jaffna and Kilinochchi water supply and sanitation project in line with the government's target of providing safe drinking water for all citizens, Director Information, M.G.Jayatissa said yesterday.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide US$90 million in loans to help Sri Lanka restore water supply and sanitation infrastructure in the war-ravaged north, a statement said. The project, due for completion by February 2017, will help restore and modernise key infrastructure damaged by war or which deteriorated as a result of neglect mainly in the Jaffna Peninsula.

The Japanese government and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) are providing a grant of $2.5 million for a skills-training project for approximately 2,500 internally displaced persons in northern Sri Lanka. The program will also include a cash-for-work option to develop infrastructure by rebuilding roads and irrigation canals.
