The Muslim community living in the Jaffna peninsula has vehemently condemned the Darushman report. People are leading extremely peaceful lives as terrorism has been eradicated from the entire island. What is needed at this juncture is to further strengthen the co-existence among the communities. This was disclosed at a meeting held in Jaffna yesterday, which was attended by representatives of all religious faiths in the country.

The Sri Lankan artistes sternly condemn the Darushman’s report. Veteran actor Jackson Anthony at a media briefing today said the aim of the report is to direct the Sri Lankan communities to separatism. All Sri Lankans must unite forgetting all their differences to defeat this false and unfounded report. Veteran Actor Ravindra Randeniya said the report has been prepared on the needs of the forces aligned to western countries. Veteran Actress Malini Fonseka said the false report of Darushman’s is unable to retard Sri Lanka’s future programmes. Chairman of the Tower Hall Theatre Foundation Douglas Siriwardena said the Darushman’s report could not cause any harm to Sri Lanka’s sovereignty. Veteran actor Rohana Weerasinghe the report is devoid of balance or any transparency and it is only a unilateral report. Darushman refuses to divulge any information regarding person who provided facts to prepare the report. He said he will disclose the names only after 20 years. This raises a fair suspicion on the transparency of the report. Veteran film director Somaratna Dissanayake said the report did not contain any evidence to establish the fact that the terrorist organisation is a disciplined organisation.

Sea transport network between India and Sri Lanka will be streamlined. During the meeting between President Mahinda Rajapakse and Indian Navy Commander Admiral Nirmal Varma special attention was made on modernizing the Kankesanthurai Port, and on commencing board services between Thalai Mannar and Rameswaram as well as between Colombo Fort and Tuticorn. Mr. Varma also met Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne and talks between them focused on expansion of sea transport between the two countries.
