Tuesday, July 20, 2010 -645 GMT Robert Blake to arrive in Sri Lanka US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Robert O Blake will visit Sri Lanka tomorrow (21 July), the US Embassy in Colombo said. During his stay in Sri Lanka, he will meet with high ranking government officials. Recently Mr. Robert Blake said in an interview with Rediff that the US welcomes the steps taken by the Sri Lankan government in appointing a Reconciliation Commission.

Jaffna depot has been able to function as the most profitable venture out of the 103 depots countrywide, operating 100% of the deployed busses for Jaffna. The Transport Ministry had appointed 60 drivers and conductors to the Jaffna SLTB Depot to provide a better service.

The U.S. Embassy in Colombo announced the Youth Empowerment Grants Program to fund projects for Sri Lankan youth. The main objective of the grant program is to support innovative, small-scale, cutting-edge projects developed and implemented by and/or for young people between the ages of 15-25 in the areas of educational development, environment issues, community development, civil society building, human rights, youth enrichment activities, health and human services and employability.

The Commission of Inquiry on Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation will meet public officials in Kilinochchi later this month. The eight-member Commission has already met four times to discuss modalities of work and it was decided to hold sittings in the affected areas in the North and East to enable the public to have easy access to the Commission and enhance awareness of its work.
